At Ever Care Dental, we offer white, tooth-colored fillings for our patients. We know that our patients are concerned with both health and aesthetics. White fillings allow us to choose a custom color to match your teeth. That way, when you laugh, talk, and smile, no one will notice that you have had a filling.
How Are Cavities Detected?
Cavities are actually due to decay (caries) in your teeth. Bacteria that create an acidic environment in your mouth cause decay by eating away at your tooth structure. While severe decay can cause pain, minor decay usually has no symptoms and is only detected at your routine dental exam. Typically, decay is detected by using dental x-rays. We use digital x-rays in our office, which means we can see results right away and you can get back to your day.
How Do White Fillings Work?
Once decay is detected, Dr. Gonzales will gently and thoroughly remove the damaged portion of your tooth and then sterilize the area. Removing decay leaves a hole that must be filled and sealed to prevent any more bacteria from entering your tooth structure. White filling material, called composite, will be placed in layers and cured with a special curing light. Once the cavity is completely filled, she will polish and make any final adjustments to your filling so that it blends with your tooth. Your white filling will look and feel completely natural. White fillings are durable and long lasting. With proper care, your fillings can last many, many years.
Dental Bonding
White fillings can also be used to make small cosmetic improvements to your teeth. This process is known as dental bonding. Dental bonding treats conditions such as:
- Gaps in your teeth
- Chipped teeth
- Oddly shaped teeth
- Discolored teeth
- Shortened teeth
- Worn teeth
Because dental bonding is less invasive than many other cosmetic procedures, minimal prep work is required. That means that your tooth structure will remain intact and we will be adding to the existing structure in order to improve the aesthetics of your teeth.
